Yes, we will be present on the Independent Label Market in Brussels this weekend. We have all our stock + related stuff with us, including last copies of Lost Bear’s Monkey Pop cassette, Todd Tobias’ Impossible Cities 2 cd-r and even a very rare out-of-print I Am Oak release (the Skulk EP). Of course there are some second hand CDs and vinyl too, but that’s not what this is about. Come and say hi to us, we’ll tell you everything about our releases and of course we’ll bring an iPod to listen to them. Every purchase is celebrated like a birthday present. In fact, it’s label owner Stefan’s birthday tomorrow, so no better way to celebrate than to buy something from us! Also: on Sunday, The World of Dust is playing a showcase, at 14.00 o’clock. Too much fun. FB Event here!
For the latest release by American producer/musician Todd Tobias (Massabu Evening Entertainments), we did something special. A mysterious band is credited on the sleeve of the album, Combo Qasam. This band did not exist. A couple of Lost Bear and Rogue Minor band members then decided to bring this band to life and play the songs from the album.
Todd Tobias also wrote a pamphlet, talking about a DIY Fun Movement: get away from your screens and out of prefab discos, and create your own fun. The music and the pamphlet did create a special DIY Fun vibe on the three shows Combo Qasam played, in OCCII (Amsterdam), Worm (Rotterdam) and Studio Patrick (Utrecht). On the last night (the most successful expression of DIY Fun), there was a reviewer of 3voor12/Utrecht who wrote a very thoughtful piece with some beautiful photos. Read it here: https://bit.ly/2pSZaJb.
We also shot video material of the show. Get a sense of what was going on here:
On the latest album by Todd Tobias (coming out March 23), Combo Qasam is a fictional band from Massabu. But in the meantime, Hanad (electric guitar, rebab, kaban), Soofe (flute, farfisa organ, rababah), Maax (bass guitar, boxes) and Doog (spoons), along with dancers and actors, got ready to perform their weirdness on stage in this visible universe.
During three Dutch shows, Combo Qasam (in which we recognize members of Lost Bear and Rogue Minor) will play the songs from Massabu Evening Entertainments. They will bring their DIY Fun Movement to these towns, supporting Gillespie from Kosovo on every night:
Oh my oh my! Le Mini Who? has always been one of our favorite days of the year. This year we hosted a crowded and great show by Moon Moon Moon (these guys keep getting better!) and then the release show of French slowcore/indiefolk outfit garciaphone (SO GOOD!). It could not have been better.
Reviews of the album seem to agree about the awesomeness of the record:
Culturopoing: “a melancholy pop classic”
Indiepoprock: “melodic perfection, a disarming and overwhelming fragility”
Proglog Afterglow: “an album without weak spots”
WoNoBlog: “extreme, melancholy beauty”
In De Ban Van: “soothing melodies”
We had a great party last week in Amsterdam! We like throwing parties. We like to organize concerts. We are honored to host a venue at the always awesome Le Mini Who? festival next week, with two of our bands: Moon Moon Moon, currently killing it on tour, and Garciaphone, whose new album will come out next week. Here’s another preview of that album:
Holy shit! That was a good one, yesterday at the Vondelbunker in Amsterdam. Three bands, who are releasing stuff on Tiny Room Records, were playing magical shows in a mouldy room without toilets. Gotta love the DIY.
