Boeije

Bio
The band Boeije is the autobiographical project of singer and guitarist Rienko Boeije. Born in Zeeland, he exchanged the wide polders of the Zeeland islands for the boisterous streets of South Rotterdam. In the homestudio in his attic he works on gorgeous songs that unfold before your eyes like old 8mm film images. Sometimes small and intimate, sometimes grand and almost exploding with bombast. With lyrics – in Dutch! –  that take you through existential themes such as faith, doubt, decay, and growing up on the borders of the Bible Belt. In 2018, the band released its first EP on cassette entitled ‘Drie lange dagen’, with as centrepiece the song ‘Sluit mijn beide ogen’, an ode to Rienko’s late mother and an arrangement of the bedtime prayer, she used to sing for him.

Boeije is currently in the process of finishing the debut album ‘Uit gewoonte en bijgeloof’. The album contains 12 beautiful songs, ranging from lazy indie pop to noise rock and folk –  loompop or strandgaze, as the band calls it – and will be released this fall on Tiny Room Records. On the record, Rienko Boeije gives a special and rather picturesque insight into his youth, his upbringing and that of his children, his relationships with worldy and otherworldly persons.

The recording of the album took place partly at home, partly in the Oude Kerk in Charlois (South Rotterdam) and partly in Studio Katzwijm (Voorhout). For the recordings, Rienko Boeije worked with producer Floyd Atema and a selection of musicians, including Gerrit van der Scheer (Herrek, Bonne Aparte) and Ilse Hamelink (Ilsha). On stage Rienko Boeije is accompanied by Daniel Mohanu (vocals, guitar, keys), Jesse Hofman (guitar, keys, percussion), Axel Dees (bass) and Bernd Hubach (drums).
