Bio
Caspar Milquetoast returns with ten new songs that slip between camp, fantasy and history, crafted with Mellotron dreams and harmonium depth.
The second Caspar Milquetoast album, Another Olive, Praefectus?, gathers ten tracks written and recorded between 2022 and 2025. Some appeared suddenly (Song For Body was captured in a single hour) while others, like Ode To The Gladiator, simmered for years before taking shape. Together they form a compact, 20-minute world of sound and text: a new place to dwell in, as fleeting as it is rich.
If the debut We’ll Have Tea built its universe on characters and borrowed voices, Another Olive, Praefectus? turns inward to obsessions: camp, fantasy, history, Pontius Pilate and a soccer tournament in Cairo, arranged with a Prophet V synth and a trusty Mellotron. Stefan Breuer’s mastering and harmonium add resonance and weight, amplifying the peculiar mix of grandeur and intimacy. The result is a set of miniature epics that feel both playful and strangely timeless.
Caspar Milquetoast is the songwriting project of Amani, who has been piecing songs together since 2017 in bedrooms and one-room apartments. Tiny Room Records, the Dutch DIY label that released the debut We’ll Have Tea, continues to provide a home for her idiosyncratic, language-rich theatrical pop experiments.
