Welcome, wh^rl!

The word is out! We have a new signing and we’re over the moon with it! Let’s welcome wh^rl to the Tiny Room family 🍁

On November 24 we release “wh^rl”, a self-titled double LP, the solo debut of Groninger Jurgen Veenstra (Avery Plains, Moan, Moonlizards). Jurgen is not hiding behind walls of noise anymore, but making a huge emotional impact with his bare & beautiful lo-fi songs. More info soon!

Tiny Adventures #3: Geri van Essen & Tape

🐆 Yes yes yes! We are gearing up for the 3rd installment of the monthly Tiny Adventures, that take place in record store slash diy venue De Groeverij in Houten. Exciting, intimate, unknown and really really good – you know the drill by now, right?

For this edition we picked a Tuesday (the last day of this month) and invited two very special singer/songwriters. Geri van Essen comes all the way from London UK for THIS SHOW. This will be the second time she plays a Dutch show since the release of her soulful, folky record Cleaned The Windows came out on our label in 2021. Not to be missed for fans of Vashti Bunyan, Aldous Harding en Sibylle Baier.

And then there’s Tape. Finally, Jacco van Elst (This Leo Sunrise, The Fire Harvest, Holden Goldmund) solo on a stage again! We have called his voice the most beautiful one of our country – but what do we know? We have got nothing to do with The Voice and Holland’s Got Talent and stuff like that, we’re the underground…!

We think it’s time you come and check it out for yourself. See you Tuesday next week, for some beautiful music, conversations, and a celebration of everything that is Real and Offline. ✌️🕊

Tiny Adventures #2

What a wonderful evening yesterday in De Groeverij! Thanks so much for coming, it all turned out well in the end. The field recording collage by Cochlea (Tjerk Stoop), with explanation by Anneke Nieuwdorp, was a real tiny adventure for the ears. After listening to this fascinating piece, Dusty Stray treated us with a diverse, entertaining set full of stories, rootsy folk, weird instruments and his mighty voice. This performance was something else! Alright, hope to see you all on the next edition, October 31st with Geri van Essen.

Tiny Adventures #2: Dusty Stray + Cochlea

It’s time to go on a second adventure with us! Next week, on Saturday 30th of September, we’ll welcome you to De Groeverij in Houten again. First we’ll have a unique listening session of a field recording collage by Cochlea called Four Seasons of Noise. A special experience of going around the year in 15 minutes.

Then, Amsterdam-based American Dusty Stray takes over the stage. We love his alt-folk songs, little stories that matter. Really excited to finally see this live. If you’re digging Kurt Vile, The Posies or Big Thief, this should be right up your alley.

Hope to see you next week, link here:

The World of Dust new zine and postcard set

We are proud to release The Inversion, the second collage zine by Bilthoven-based artist The World of Dust. This 56-page full colour A5 zine comes as a successor to 2017’s Golden Moon zine. With these new collages – which, by the way, all have cool titles – The World of Dust further explores his usual mindful, surreal universe of imagery and sound. Vivid colors, nature, animals, humor and spirituality go hand in hand in his beautiful work.

Released at the same time is a set with 5 postcards, all containing an exclusive collage (which are not part of the zine). Great to send your loved ones something unique, weird and lovely, while at the same time supporting the work of a DIY artist.

Get it the zine The Inversion and/or the postcard set on our Bandcamp page!

Microwolf – Changelings (out now)

Today we release the 60th record on our label! Microwolf’s Changelings is a jazzy postfolktrip through both the blissful and heavier sides of becoming a father. It’s also his swan song, because this album says it all. It’s beyond ‘good’, it’s really unique and special. We are heavily in love with it. Listen to it on all streaming platforms or buy the vinyl on our Bandcamp page!

About that, today it’s Bandcamp Friday. So we (in this case Microwolf) get to keep all profits and Bandcamp doesn’t take its usual 10-15% cut. It’s a good day for ordering! We’ve also put online a lot of ‘last copies’ or ‘last two copies’ of some releases that we thought were out of stock. And some new World of Dust merch (zine and postcards). Combine and make your move!

Our new concert series Tiny Adventures in Houten

We are starting a new concert series! Over the course of the next months, there will be 4 evenings with live music in De Groeverij in Houten. You can discover new, exciting, a little bit experimental and extremely good artists in a very intimate setting. We named these events Tiny Adventures.

The first edition is happening in a week: Saturday September the 2nd. Tilburgian indiepostfolkjazzkraut artist Microwolf is presenting his new album Changelings in a unique solo setting. Also playing is wh^rl, all the way from Groningen. Singer/songwriter Jurgen Veenstra lived many lives playing in noiserock bands all over the world, but finally comes (after almost 60 years) with his solo debut as wh^rl.

Two amazing songwriters who open up new perspectives on the whole ‘man with guitar’-concept. Very exciting! Hope to see you there. Limited seats available.

Onafhankelijke Labelmarkt

labelmarket banner

This Sunday we’ll be present at the annual Onafhankelijke Label Markt 2023 in Amsterdam. Like every year, we bring our catalogue of vinyl, CDs, cassettes and other merch, free promos, plus some second-hand bins from our own collection.

This year, we managed to find some items we thought were sold out. Like the last copy of Todd Tobias’ Impossible Cities 2 cd-r, the last two copies of Moon Moon Moon’s Help! Help!, Moonchy & Tobias’ Venus Mirror EP… and we even found an End of Latin cassette by Sven Agaath!

There are new postcards by The World of Dust (and a collage zine that is not in the video) and of course the main new release: Microwolf – Changelings LP. That one will be on display, you should get it!

On vinyl, we’ll also have these special items with us:
– The last copy of Combo Qazam’s Flight Music
– The last two copies of Lost Bear’s Inside The Dragon double LP
– The last two copies of Toby Goodshank’s Untitled record
– Astral Swans self-titled record featuring Julie Doiron
– The last copy of the Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy / Naked Shortsellers split 7″
– Last copies of Microplaza’s Read The Room and Tiny Wine’s Archer EPs

Microwolf – Life That Wills (official video)

We are proud to present the second single from the new Microwolf album Changelings (about to be dropped on the 1st of September), called Life That Wills. And this one even comes with a video!

Life That Wills is an ode to the resilience and power of life. The lyrics consist almost entirely of one quote from theologian and philosopher Albert Schweitzer: “I’m life that wills to live in the midst of life that wills to live.” This duet with Harold K is one of the poppier songs on the album. It’s a great choice for a single and it should be part of all your Indie Summer playlists 🌞 In our humble opinion…

Pre-order Changelings by Microwolf now!

If you’re in need of a new music discovery, a jazzy postfolktrip that will slide easily into your year-end list, look no further! Today, pre-orders are up for Microwolf’s astonishing new album Changelings. A sexy slab of wax with a monkey and a duck on a dot-induced psychedelic cover.
