About Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy – The Best of Folks:
“The Best Of Folks is as much a guide for survival in a world of increasing alienation and digital dependency, as it is a highlight of a long-running career.”
About Naked Shortsellers – Harbour Men
“Occupying an alt.county hinterland made up of pedal steel guitars, shimmering twangs and sweeping aural vistas, this is a track that perfectly encapsulates those long winter nights.”
This is happening! To top off a brilliant year full of beautiful releases, we end 2018 with a bang. An intimate & sad bang though, ha! Our biggest international release so far…
On December 21st, we’ll release a split 7″ by American indie hero Bonnie Prince Billy and new Utrecht supergroup Naked Shortsellers. Two new songs to celebrate the long-term relationship by highly acclaimed musician Will Oldham and Dutch musician (and Oldham’s webmaster) Leo Meijer. It’s beyond perfect.
This is the cover of the sleeve, a painting made by Rik Berkhout. More info this week!
This should have been up earlier, but we have been lost in the world of Le Guess Who? this weekend, great as ever. Anyway, there is a new record coming out on Dec 7th on Tiny Room Records that you should know about!
It’s a split 12″ (100 copies made) of Belgian indie rock band Taïfun and Utrecht-based power trio Holden Goldmund. 2 sides, 2 bands, 2 countries, 8 songs, all great. We release it in the Netherlands, Honest House is covering Belgium and Stereo Dasein takes care of Germany.
Brace yourself when entering the disorienting world of Moonchy & Tobias, where churning rock textures created by Todd Tobias are the landscape within which vocalist Pat Moonchy runs riot, warping her voice into every recess and shape available. Skirting the boundary between fairytale and nightmare, the angular architecture of the music is softened and stretched at every juncture. Whether the pounding bass of ‘Juu Ichi’, the bubbling submarine atmospheres of ‘Vertigo Trail’, or the percussion and fuzz carnival of single ‘Une Saison En Enfer’, Moonchy and Tobias create a transformative musical experience in which giddy tangents abound.
Moonchy & Tobias pairs Italian vocalistPat Moonchy with American instrumentalist Todd Tobias. Moonchy is one-half of the experimental band Sothiac, in duos alongside trombonist Angelo Contini and jazz drummer Lino Liguori, in the Tai-No Orchestra, and with German krautrock pioneers Faust. Ohio native Tobias is a long-time collaborator with Robert Pollard (Guided by Voices), and provided the musical backing to Pollard’s vocals in the freak-rock trio Circus Devils. Tobias has also released a series of themed instrumental albums under his own name.
We’re very excited to present the first taste of Moonchy & Tobias, an electrifying collaboration between Italian vocalist Pat Moonchy (Faust, Sothiac) and American instrumentalist Todd Tobias (Circus Devils, Robert Pollard). Check the video for ‘Une Saison En Enfer’ here:
Moonchy & Tobias will see release on November 2nd 2018 through Tiny Room Records and Hidden Shoal.
The video is about Helen overcoming her fear of dancing, by working together with a professional dancer who she admires. She learned to dance on one day, and they shot the video the next day. In the choreography, that came to Helen during a nightly vision and features two opposite women in a sort of schizophrenic setting, you see Helen opening up and gaining self-confidence. The two dancers show the world what beautiful art you can create in a very short time, when you’re determined to try and take chances. Bravo!
Empty Room is the 2nd single of A Room To Store Happiness, the CD/LP that will be released on Tiny Room Records (NL) and Only Lovers Records (FR) on October 5, 2018. Pre-orders here:
We are thrilled to add a new artist to our roster: LOGOUT.
Meet the friendly Greek from Amsterdam, who performs as a one-man orchestra somewhere between a poppy Xiu Xiu and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone with Greek folk melodies, on the Popronde traveling circus this fall. Album & tour news soon.
Tiny Room Records presents Amialluma: a hypnotic 10-track collaboration between American musician Todd Tobias and English vocalist Chloë March. Dwelling in a mysterious hinterland somewhere between Cocteau Twins’ seminal Victorialand and The Caretaker’s Persistent Repetition of Phrases, Amialluma dances between the earthly and heavenly. Chloë March’s celestial voice shines a light through Todd Tobias’s dark, fantastical soundscapes, resulting in a sublime, uncanny experience that enraptures and unsettles in equal measure.
Through a process of improvisation sparked by the emotive power of Tobias’s music, March developed a lyrical world of word-invention sung into archaic lullabies and tales. The lyrics centre around a child’s journey from the safety of its mother’s arms through an ancient, shadowy world. Overcoming fear and meeting with otherworldly guides, the child finds independence and reveals a deep connection with nature.
Amialluma will be released on CD by Tiny Room Records, on September 4, 2018. Publishing through Hidden Shoal. Listen to the first single Lallulow here:
